Abstract:
The CMI-led project investigates implications of preference for sons in Nepal on economic decisions and outcomes.
Gender of the firstborn child is used as a natural experiment, and we investigate direct effects on allocation of investments
between education, dowry, and physical capital; as well as indirect effects via the number of children. And we
investigate how these decisions affect labor market participation and poverty.
